Before you buy

Price per serving

For coffee, wine and groceries, compare price per bag, bottle or serving, not just the percent off.

Check delivery fees

Delivery, service fees and tips can outweigh a small discount. Look at the final total, not the subtotal.

Subscriptions renew

Subscribe-and-save prices are real savings, but they repeat. Note how to pause, skip or cancel.

Order gifts early

Perishable and alcohol shipments can take longer around holidays. Leave room for delivery windows.

How to save on food, drink and gifts

What this category covers

Food and gifts is a mixed bag. It includes everyday shopping like groceries from Instacart and Walmart, treats like coffee from Coffee Bros and goods from Rhinegeist, and wine from Wine Insiders and WineExpress.

Because those are very different kinds of purchases, the way to save differs too. A grocery order is about fees and minimums, a coffee order is about subscriptions and price per bag, and a wine order is about shipping rules and case pricing. This guide covers the patterns they share, and our wine deals page goes deeper on wine.

Delivery, fees and minimums

With food and grocery delivery, the price on the shelf is only part of what you pay. Delivery fees, service fees, small-order fees and tips can add up to more than a promo code saves, and item prices on delivery apps can differ from in-store prices.

Before you check out, look at the final total with everything included. If a code takes a dollar amount off a first order or waives delivery, check the minimum order it needs and whether it applies to fees or only to items. Membership programs that waive delivery fees can pay for themselves if you order often, but only then.

  • Compare totals, not subtotals. Fees and tips are where the real cost hides.
  • Check substitutions. On grocery orders, set your substitution preferences so a swapped item doesn't cost more than you expected.
  • Pick up when you can. Pickup orders often avoid delivery fees altogether.

Subscriptions and repeat orders

Coffee, wine and other consumables are often sold on subscription, with a lower price for regular deliveries. That's a genuine saving if you'd buy the same thing anyway, and it can be a quiet drain if deliveries pile up faster than you use them.

Before you subscribe, check three things: how often it ships, how to skip or pause a delivery, and how to cancel. A first-order discount on a subscription usually applies to that first box only, so look at what later deliveries cost too.

Buying food and drink as a gift

Food, coffee and wine make easy gifts, and they're popular enough that stores run gift-focused offers around the holidays. A little planning goes a long way.

  • Order earlier than you think. Holiday shipping gets busy, and perishable items may only ship on certain days of the week.
  • Check who can receive it. Alcohol deliveries typically need an adult to sign for them, and some states don't allow wine shipments at all. See our wine deals page for more.
  • Look for gift options. Gift messages, gift wrap and gift receipts vary by store. Check before you order if they matter.
  • Gift cards and subscriptions. A gift subscription or a store gift card avoids sizing and taste guesswork, but check expiry rules and fees.

How to tell if a food deal is worth it

Percentages can be misleading on food and drink. Twenty percent off a premium bag of coffee can still cost more per cup than full price on a larger bag, and a bundle of six bottles is only a deal if you want all six.

The most reliable comparison is unit price: per ounce, per bottle, per serving or per pod. Most grocery sites show it, and for coffee or wine you can work it out in a few seconds. Compare against what you normally pay, and you'll quickly know whether a code is worth acting on.

Stacking codes, credits and rewards

Most stores allow one promo code per order, but you can often combine it with other savings: a membership that waives fees, store credit or rewards points, or a sale price that's already applied. First-order codes are the most common kind in this category and usually can't be combined with other new-customer offers.

If a code doesn't apply, check whether it's for new customers only, whether your order meets the minimum, and whether the items in your cart are excluded. Alcohol, gift cards and certain brands are common exclusions.

Where to start

If you have a specific store in mind, its page has every offer we list for it. If you're shopping for a holiday, our Black Friday page collects the offers stores publish for it as they go live. And if you're shopping for someone who'd rather have something to wear, our clothing deals are a good next stop.

When to buy

These are patterns across the category, not promises from any one store. The end date on each offer is the one to trust.

Food and gift deals FAQ

Where do these food and gift codes come from?

From each store's own affiliate program, which we check once a day. Every offer shows the end date the store set, and expired offers drop off automatically.

Do grocery delivery codes cover fees?

It depends on the code. Some take money off the items, some waive delivery fees, and some apply only to a first order over a minimum amount. The offer terms on the store's site say which.

Are subscription discounts worth it?

They can be, if you'd buy the same item regularly anyway. Check how often it ships, how to skip or pause, and what later deliveries cost after any first-order discount.

Can wine be shipped to any state?

No. Wine shipping rules vary by state, some states don't allow it, and an adult usually has to sign for the delivery. Check that the store ships to your address before you order.

When should I order food gifts for the holidays?

Earlier than you'd order other gifts. Perishable items and alcohol may ship only on certain days, and holiday delivery windows get tighter in December.

Blippr may earn a commission if you click through to a store and buy. That doesn't change the price you pay. Every offer here is one the brand published through its affiliate program, shown with the end date it set, so check the store's terms before you buy.
